Apr 15, 2011 (newstodate): The Croatian government has extended the tender for construction of a second passenger terminal at Zagreb Airport.
Originally set for April 4, 2011, the deadline has been extended to May 4, 2011, and sources say this indicates that "a significant participant" in the tender needs extra time to finalize its offer.
It is known that the US company Houston Airport System is highly interested in the tender that has also drawn interest among Turkish, French and German airport construction companies.
After an earlier tender among architect companies, the new 65,000 sq m terminal has been designed been a consortium comprising Croatia's IGH, Neidhardt Arhitekti and Kincl.
The planned terminal will be five times bigger than the existing one at Zagreb Airport.
In 2010 the airport handled slightly more than two mio passengers, and the first phase of the new terminal will increase capacity to five mio passengers annually.
