Apr 07, 2011 (newstodate): Earlier exempt from privatisation, Bulgaria's Sofia Airport is now to be opened up for foreign investments.
The Bulgarian Minister of Transport has informed the parliament that a tender should be opened this summer for concession to invest in and manage Sofia Airport.
The capital injection is needed to finance the redevelopment of the existing airport infrastructure including the construction of a new cargo terminal, terminals for general aviation and VIP, and construction of new jet fuel facility.
The potential investor will also take over the debts on loans by EIB and the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development spent on the construction of the non-Schengen Terminal 2.
