Apr 15, 2011 (newstodate): Montenegro is to have its third international airport at Berane, in the country's eastern part - but the process is evolving slowly.
While talks over the revival of the airport has been going on for years, little has so far been achieved, leaving the existing infrastructure including three runways, one of which is a 1,900 m concrete/asphalt runway, and a terminal with almost no traffic since the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia in the 90'ies.
A decision calling for the revitalization of the airport and its opening as the country's third international airport after a thorough reconstruction and modernization has now been confirmed, and the owner of the airport, the Berane City Council, will soon start talks with the Turkish company Limak Holding, aiming at setting up a public-private holding company.
In 2010, Limak won the concession for Kosovo's Prishtina International Airport.
