Mar 01, 2011 (newstodate): The gap between the Boeing and Airbus competitors for new aircraft to the long-haul medium-size aircraft market is narrowing.
As of now, the Boeing 787 is still leading the race, with firm orders for a total of 843 aircraft, while the Airbus A350 is gaining ground with a total of 583 orders.
The Boeing 787 is however now three years behind schedule, with first delivery currently slated for the latter part of this year.
The Airbus 350 that came off to a belated start after a comprehensive re-designing phase, is so far on schedule, with first delivery slated for the second half of 2013.
More significantly, the Boeing alternative has suffered from a total of 57 cancellations beginning 2009, while the Airbus alternative seems still to have generated only positive net order development.
