Mar 11, 2011 (newstodate): The Swedish ACMI-provider and charter carrier Tor Air is seeing prospects opening for more charter operations in the European and Scandinavian markets in summer 2011.
The carrier currently operates one Boeing 737-400 aircraft engaged in Iraqi domestic flights as well as in European operations.
-We are looking into the market for taking in a Boeing 737-800 aircraft before the end of this year, but it has proved to be rather difficult to find the right aircraft at the right price as prices have indeed risen in response to growing demand in the market, says Torbjorn Winsell, Tor Air CEO.
-In the meantime we are now negotiating with some carriers for wet-lease of one Boeing 737-300 aircraft needed to secure the production already contracted during the coming summer season. A final solution has not been reached yet.
-While looking forward to realizing our initial aspirations for operating in the European and Scandinavian charter and ACMI markets, we are indeed also happy with our Iraqi and Middle East operations. The mix between concentrated summer peak operations in Europe and Scandinavia and all-year operations in the Middle East and Iraq is indeed ideal for a carrier like Tor Air, says Mr Winsell.
To provide a firm basis for the coming expansion with new aircraft, Tor Air is also probing into financial markets to increase the capital base of the airline.
