Mar 29, 2011 (newstodate): Secrecy still veils plans for the projected launch of a new airline in Lithuania.
airBaltic's CEO, president and majority-owner through the investment company Baltic Aviation System, Bertolt Flick, and Kristian Kirchheiner, former SAS executive and airBaltic's second president and CEO, and Baltic Aviation System is also the project owner.
At a press conference in Vilnius in September 2010, plans were revealed for the launch of the new Lithuanian carrier expected to take to the air from autumn 2011 with flights from Vilnius to Dublin, London, Paris, Munich, Rome, Warsaw, Istanbul, and Moscow.
Initial plans called for a fleet of three Boeing 737 aircraft, to grow to 10 aircraft serving a network of 28 destination.
But according to Lithuanian press reports, the carrier has still not been granted its AOC and has not offered any public comments since the first appearance in 2010.
Along the same line, several attempts by newstodate to obtain any response to calls on Mr Flick on this issue have remained unanswered.
