Mar 01, 2011 (newstodate): The Lithuanian charter carrier and ACMI provider, Small Planet Airlines sees its future with an all-Airbus aircraft fleet.
In the fleet now are 12 aircraft including seven Boeing 737-300, four Boeing 737-500 and one Boeing 757-200, and the carrier will take delivery of its first two Airbus A320 aircraft this summer.
-Small Planet Airlines operates in different European markets. Sometimes we need to quickly shift our capacities and adjust to different market demands. We hope that operating an Airbus A320 fleet will add more flexibility to our operations, says Vytautas Kaikaris, Small Planet Airlines CEO.
-Aircraft of the A320 family may be regarded as four different aircraft. However, all A320 aircraft require single certification for pilots and maintenance personnel. Many spare parts are similar, reducing the size of required spare part pool.
-The Airbus A320 aircraft also boast a slightly wider cabin, with more space for passengers, and Airbus is known for advanced in-flight electronics.
-Airbus A320 will replace the Boeing 757 in our fleet, as this aircraft was not the best choice for the type of routes we are flying. We could not use the additional flight range of the aircraft, as well as additional seating space. For this type of job, Airbus A320 will be an ideal substitute.
-Of course, it is cheaper to run one aircraft type operations. In the future we are looking to add more Airbus aircraft. Two Airbus A320 will be added this year, and we are also interested in adding A319 and A321 aircraft.
-In the more distant future, we expect to fully switch to Airbus aircraft, says Mr Kaikaris.
Formerly named FlyLAL Charters, the carrier was established in 2007 to separate charter services from FlyLal that later went brankrupt.
The carrier is now member of the Avia Solutions Group, and based at Vilnius, Lithuania.
