Mar 03, 2011 (newstodate): The Russian carrier SkyExpress Airlines is confirming plans for opening flights to Lithuania - but the time-frame is still not fixed.
-We are currently in the process of finalizing our fleet turnover and schedule, and besides we are preparing to expand our aircraft fleet, says a SkyExpress spokesperson.
-With these issues settled, we will have more possibilities for opening new routes. But we could not say when exactly SkyExpress will open a new route to Kaunas.
The management at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport takes a similar cautious approach to the issue.
-We are glad to see the way our dialog with SkyExpress is going, but at the moment I would not like to comment further, says Arijandas Sliupas, Kaunas Airport general director.
According to sources, SkyExpress has been granted rights for the planned flights between Moscow and Kaunas by the Russian authorities, while the Lithuanian permits are still pending.
The country's first private low-cost carrier and based at Moscow Vnukovo Airport, SkyExpress launched flights on January 29, 2007, and now operates a fleet of Boeing 737-300 and -500 aircraft.
