Mar 28, 2011 (newstodate): In a surprising move, the handling market at Copenhagen Airport changed again with the sale of Novia announced last week.
Novia will become part of the Scandinavian company Aviator Airport Alliance, formed in November 2010 by three existing handling providers: the Swedish company Nordic Aero and the Norwegian companies Roeros Flyservice and Norport Ground Handling, and owned by investment group Accent Equity 2008.
It was announced earlier that the Danish handling provider, Copenhagen Flight Services, part of the Swedish Nordic Aero Group, would launch operations from June 1, 2011, taking over servicing of EasyJet from Novia at the airport's dedicated low-cost facility.
With the acquisition of Novia, Aviator will become an even stronger competitor to the airport's other handling provider, the SAS Group's SGS that was earlier placed on the sales list but later, in 2010, confirmed as part of the group after strong union resistance, backed by the fact that no potential buyer emerged.
It now remains to be seen if the Latvian ground handling company North Hub Services will pursue it plans, earlier announced, for entry into the handling market at Copenhagen Airport by 2012.
