Mar 08, 2011 (newstodate): Georgia is investing in a comprehensive upgrading of its airport infrastructure.
One project is the extension of the runway of Poti Airport as well as construction of a new airport administration building as part of efforts to reopen the airport that has been inoperative since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Another project is the renovation of the 2,500m runway at Kutaisi Airport as well as upgrading of pertinent equipment.
Also on the table is a project to rehabilitate one of the two runways at Tbilisi Airport, while regional airports at Ingiri, Mestia and Anaklia-Zugdidi Airport are to be developed.
In 2010, Georgian airports handled a total of 918,736 passengers, up 19 percent, y-o-y.
