Mar 08, 2011 (newstodate): As the first European carrier to operate the Boeing 787 aircraft, the Polish airline LOT now says it will take delivery of the first aircraft in April 2012 - four years behind the original schedule.
In 2005, LOT was among the first airlines to place orders for the new Boeing aircraft, signing up for a total of seven, later eight Boeing 878-800 with deliveries initially slated to start from 2008.
Instead, LOT will now have five Boeing 787 aircraft in the fleet by the end of 2012, allowing for the long-awaited expansion of the intercontinental route network, especially targeting flights to new destinations in Asia.
That is, if the current delivery scheme holds..
