Mar 30, 2011 (newstodate): Estonian Air has decided to phase out its two SAAB 340A aircraft, beginning from this summer's schedule already.
The airline will instead replace them with new, larger turboprop aircraft to provide faster and more frequent air links between Estonia and various European cities.
So far the airline has not, however, unveiled details of its plans for aircraft acquisitions.
-We are currently in negotiations and have decided not to comment on this issue at the moment, says Andrus Aljas, Estonian Air President and CEO.
Estonian Air has confirmed, though, that it is indeed assessing the final decision on the aircraft type, and taking steps for implementing the new aircraft type in its network.
This year, Estonian Air took delivery of its first two Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, and a third will be delivered in 2012.
Industry sources seem to expect the forthcoming order for new turboprop aircraft to be Bombardier's Dash-8 Q400 that are also now operated by the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
