Mar 03, 2011 (newstodate): In 2010 Denmark's airfreight export volumes to China were close to overtaking those to North America, so far invariably Denmark's largest airfreight market.
During January-December 2010 Danish export airfreight by IATA carriers accrued to 17,463 tonnes to North America, while volumes destined for China were 15,418 tonnes, corresponding to 23 and 20.3 percent, respectively, of the total Danish IATA airfreight export volumes, 75,882 tonnes in 2010.
Third in volumes came the Middle East with 8,117 tonnes, or 10.7 percent of the total airfreight.
Compared to the preceding year, the North American market grew by 18.3 percent while China was up by 45.3 percent, indicating that China may well take over North America's traditional role as Denmark's single most important airfreight market.
Seen from the perspective of price per kilo, rates to North America on IATA carrier remained almost unchanged in 2010, growing only 0.7 percent, while rates per kilo to China were up by 13.6 percent on an average.
