Mar 07, 2011 (newstodate): Macedonia is currently negotiating an open-skies air services agreement with the USA.
The country is pinning high hopes on the outcome of the talks that would pave the road for establishing direct air services between the two countries.
Another precondition for launch of the coveted North American services is the completion of the runway extension at Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, now operated by the Turkish TAV under a 20-year management contract that comprises a range of projects including both the extension of the current 2,450m runway, and construction of a new passenger terminal.
