Mar 02, 2011 (newstodate): Afghanistan's third private airline Safi Airways is repositioning itself with new management after the ban on European flights from November 23, 2010.
The new management team comprises OK-citizen Michael McTighe as Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dutch national John Roijen as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Jordanian Mohammad Al-Hayek as Deputy Chief Operating Officer, with Hamid Safi as Executive Director.
-The EU ban on Afghan airlines flying to Europe has required that we effectively need to relaunch the airline. We face a couple of months of turbulence before we emerge into clear air but we are very confident that our new strategic plan will soon bear fruit, says Michael McTighe, the carrier's COO.
As one harbinger of a fresh start, Safi Airways plans to re-open flights between Kabul and Paris from July 1, 2011, using Airbus A320 aircraft on the route.
