Mar 17, 2011 (newstodate): Lufthansa's Supervisory Board has dug deep into the pockets, ordering a total of 35 new aircraft at its latest meeting.
Lufthansa will take delivery of 25 Airbus A320neo and five A321neo aircraft to de allocated to the carrier's continental European traffic, bringing the total number of A320neo-orders on Airbus' books to over 330 since the launch of the program only in December 2010.
Lufthansa has also placed orders with Boeing for five Boeing 777 freighters, slated for delivery from 2013.
The new freighter will go to Lufthansa's business segment Logistics.
It has thus not yet been decided if they will finally be placed with Lufthansa Cargo, AeroLogic that already operates eight Boeing 777F, or Jade Cargo International that operates a fleet of six Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
-In either case, Lufthansa Cargo will continue to operate its fleet of 18 MD-11F aircraft even beyond 2013, says Stefanie Stotz, Deutsche Lufthansa AG Corporate Communications.
