Mar 03, 2011 (newstodate): The Polish carrier LOT is expecting 2012 to become another turning point for the airline.
In the beginning of 2012 the carrier will take delivery of the first of eight Boeing 787 aircraft, becoming the first European operator of this aircraft type, and the Dreamliner will enable the airline to focus again on opening new intercontinental flights.
In 2005, LOT placed an order for initially seven, later expanded to eight Boeing 787 aircraft, with deliveries slated to start in 2008.
Boeing's production problems have since repeatedly pushed back the first delivery date.
First to come as the Boeing 787 arrives will be flights on new routes from Warsaw to destinations in Asia from the end of the first quarter in 2012.
LOT is also to take delivery of the first of four new Embraer 195 in 2011.
Besides, the Polish government intends to launch another attempt of privatizing the airline, opening a tender in the latter half of this year.
As in the case of several earlier aborted attempts, the renewed tender will comprise the state's existing stake at 68 percent of the shares, the remainder held by the investment group Regionalny Fundusz Gospodarczy S.A.
