Feb 02, 2011 (newstodate): Effective from May 1, 2011, the Athens-based carrier Viking Hellas, a subsidiary of the Swedish Viking Group, will change its name to Fly Hellas.
The carrier is also to close down its base at Manchester and shift its future focus to serving the European and Russian markets instead.
The name change may be driven by needs to distance itself from confusion with the Swedish carrier Viking Airlines, now under bankruptcy.
The Swedish CAA suspended the carrier's AOC earlier in October 2010, and the AOC suspension will last till March 31, 2011, after which date the authorities will reconsider the issue.
