Feb 28, 2011 (newstodate): If ambitions turn into reality, the Serb carrier will be heading towards a long-overdue fleet upgrade in 2011.
According to sources, JAT will take delivery of four Airbus A319 aircraft as well as a number of ATR 72-500 aircraft.
So far, JAT has been operating a fleet of 15 aircraft including four ATR 72-200 and 11 Boeing 737 Classic aircraft.
The issue of new aircraft for JAT has long been on the agenda but invariably shaken by a long series of political and management upheavals and reshuffling.
Under the former regime, JAT ordered eight Airbus A319 aircraft that were never delivered, however, while the company posted the downpayment for them.
This issue was long heftily negotiated between JAT and Airbus before a solution was eventually found in 2010, paving the road for fresh business relations.
