Feb 24, 2011 (newstodate): In 2010 SAS Cargo abrogated its contract with Copenhagen Airport for rent of the Spirit Cargo Terminal North adjacent to the passenger aircraft apron.
To be released from the contract, SAS Cargo however had to pay an extra compensation to the airport that lifted SAS Cargo's total payments for 2010 to 136 mio Danish Crowns.
The decision to close down cargo handling at the hi-tech Spirit Cargo Terminal North was made in 2009 to cut costs after the loss of several airline customers including Singapore Airlines Cargo from February 1, 2009.
SAS Cargo instead moved its cargo handling to Terminal East, originally built by Novia and later acquired by Spirit, and located off the enclosed passenger aircraft aprons.
