Feb 14, 2011 (newstodate): Germany's Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport still has some way to go before its business plan is showing progress.
Acquired by the Danish investment group, Airport Development A/S in 2010, the future for the airport has been seen as ideal for cargo operations by Europe-Asian freighter traffic.
A secondary role will be played by low-cost traffic, and this will lift off from March 30, 2011, with Ryanair as its first customer.
Formerly a Soviet air force base equipped with a 3,100 m runway, the airport is capable of handling aircraft up to the size of Boeing 747.
In addition to Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport, the Danish investor group, managed by Michael Agerled as CEO, has also acquired Furstenwalde/Spree Airport and Maxwalde Airport.
