Dec 29, 2011 (newstodate): Freight volumes through Uzbekistan's Navoi International Airport are rising fast from a flat zero only in 2007.
In 2008 the airport still handled a mere 26 tonnes of cargo, but in 2009 the volumes had reached 19,944 tonnes.
The dynamic growth took off in 2010 where the airport handled 49,509 tonnes of cargo - and in the first nine months of this year the airport saw 37,800 tonnes.
In 2008,Uzbekistan Airways and the Hanjin Group, parent company of Korean Air, signed an agreement to develop Uzbekistan's logistics infrastructure including the building of a new logistics center at Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In August 2010, a new terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi, and in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways, Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
