Dec 07, 2011 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport scored a significant success with Ryanair's announcement yesterday to establish the carrier's 48th base at Billund, opening in March 2012.
Ryanair will base two Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Billund Airport, adding five new routes to the already announced 14 destinations in summer 2012.
Ryanair's network from Billund will thus comprise flights to destinations including Alghero, Alicante, Edinburgh, Faro, Girona, London, Malaga, Mallorca, Malta, Milano, Pisa, Rom, Tenerife and Trapani, plus the five new destinations Carcassonne, Corfu, Krakow, Venice and Zadar.
The new Ryanair base at Billund Airport is expected to deliver about 800,000 passengers annually, and sustain up to 800 jobs in the Billund region.
With this decision, Ryanair has definitively counted out Copenhagen Airport as a viable base in Denmark.
