Dec 09, 2011 (newstodate): The demand for cargo traffic at Prague Airport has been growing significantly in 2010 and 2011 - but a slow-down has now set in.
-Cargo volumes achieved a new record of 79,000 tons in 2010, representing an immense year-on-year growth by 37 percent, says Eva Krejci, Prague Airport Communications Director and Spokesperson.
-The positive trend continued in the first half of 2011 with an average increase by more than 15 percent.
-However, the development of cargo traffic at Prague Airport in the last three months has already been effected by the current general economic uncertainty connected with the Eurozone crisis.
-Prague Airport therefore now expects a slow-down for the rest of this year, and we cannot foresee any rapid improvement for the beginning of 2012.
-The largest freight volumes come from Asia with six weekly scheduled freighter flights operated by Boeing 747 aircraft. The scheduled cargo services connect Prague with total of 12 destinations.
-Belly cargo carried on board regular passenger flights represents 59 percent of total air cargo volumes, says Ms Krejci.
