Dec 06, 2011 (newstodate): At least one airport is going against the otherwise mostly negative trends in Sweden's airfreight industry: Orebro Airport!
-So far into 2011, some 28,000 tonnes of cargo have been handled at Orebro Airport, and this is a most positive development in a year otherwise marked by much turbulence and changing market indications, says Michael Smedberg, Orebro Airport managing director.
-We have seen a sustained volumes of cargo charter operations with aircraft up to the size of AN-124, but most promising for the coming years as well is the opening from early November 2011 of the new DHL cargo facility and the launch of services by DHL Express, starting from September 19, 2011.
-We are most happy to welcome DHL as our latest new scheduled cargo operator at Orebro Airport where TNT is also on-line with five weekly BAe 146 operations. Having regular scheduled cargo traffic at the airport provides a solid basis for us to grow whatever other traffic can possibly be directed into Orebro Airport.
-It is of course still too early to predict the volumes to be handler at Orebro Airport during December 2011, but with the volumes already accounted for we are sure to exceed last year's levels at 25,000 tonnes and come close to the 30,000 tonnes that was earlier seen as the baseline, says Mr Smedberg.
In 2010 the growth in volumes was about 20 percent, while indications for 2011 are now also around another 20 percent growth in cargo.
