Dec 14, 2011 (newstodate): Moscow is due to add a new international airport in 2012.
Formerly a Russian air force base, Kubinka Airport has now gained government approval for handling of international flight operations.
Plans are to open up for international traffic from 2012, already, and the airport will then be gradually expanded to reach its full capacity by 2018.
Kubinka Airport is owned by a private group, Nafta Moscow that bought the area from Russia's Air Force a few years ago.
The focus of the new airport will be handling of business flights, but commercial airline operations are also in the pipeline.
