Dec 20, 2011 (newstodate): One of the first low-cost operators in the world to focus on air cargo is flydubai, announcing the launch of its new division, flydubai Cargo from January 1, 2012.
The carrier operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 737-800 aircraft on a network spanning 46 destinations including Baku, Belgrade, Donestsk, Erbil, Kazan, Kharkiv, Kiev, Samara, Sulaimaniyah, Tbilisi, Ufa, Yekaterinburg and Yerevan.
The carrier will accept shipments including perishable items, textiles, electronics, couriered items, mail, pharmaceuticals and general cargo between any points on the network as well as beyond in cooperation with other airlines.
flydubai expects to carry 1,500 tonnes of cargo each month on its Boeing 737-800 fleet.
In line with IATA's e-freight initiative, all shipments will be transported with electronic documents rather than paper air waybills, with bookings starting from December 29, 2011.
Heading the new department is Mohamed Hassan Ali Salem, Head of Cargo.
