Dec 02, 2011 (newstodate): The agreement over the abolishing of Russian charges on airlines flying over Siberia will enter into force on January 1, 2012, after the expected approval of Russia's WTO accession on December 16, 2011.
According to the agreement, any charges levied on EU airlines for flying over Russian territory will be non-discriminatory, cost-related and transparent.
It is also understood that in the interim period until January 1, 2014, new airlines using the Siberian airspace will be exempt from the charges, while airlines already routing traffic through the airspace will cease to pay charges from January 1, 2014.
