Dec 30, 2011 (newstodate): From next summer, the low-cost carrier Iceland Express will operate into two London airports.
Besides the daily rotations on the route between Iceland Keflavik Airport and London Gatwick, the carrier will also offer one weekly rotation from June 2012 on a new route between Keflavik Airport and London Stansted Airport, with more frequencies to be added if wanted by the market.
-We want to expand our market in London by serving two different areas in and around the city, says Heimir Mar Petursson, Iceland Express PR manager.
-The two airports are located at different areas of London, and are serving different airlines for ongoing flights. There is some demand from the Icelandic public to fly into Stansted, and we want to answer this demand.
-Gatwick will still be our main airport in London, says Mr Petursson.
Iceland Express launched flights to Stansted from February 27, 2003, but moved operations to London Gatwick in May 2009.
However, after only six months services to Stansted were resumed in November 2009, only to be suspended again in 2010.
