Dec 23, 2011 (newstodate): Effective from May 11, 2012, Denver will become Icelandair's ninth North American gateway.
And Icelandair has bolstered the launch of this new service with the signing of an agreement with Denver-based Frontier Airlines.
Under the code-share agreement, Icelandair passenger will gain the benefits from access to Frontier Airlines' 500 daily flights to 80 destinations in the US, Mexico and Canada via one through-fare ticket.
The carrier will offer four weekly rotations with Boeing 757-200 aircraft on the route from Reykjavik to Denver, the fifth-busiest airport in the United States.
Icelandair already offers non-stop services to Iceland from Boston, New York, Seattle, and seasonal service from Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Orlando, Halifax and Toronto.
Icelandair is set to benefit from the at least temporary void left by the down-scaling of low-cost competitor Iceland Express' flight program in 2012 where flights from Reykjavik to New York, Boston, Chicago, Orlando and Winnipeg are put on hold.
