Dec 02, 2011 (newstodate): The ongoing conflict between the Czech carrier CSA and its pilots is followed closely in Iceland.
Taking effect from November 21, 2011, Iceland Express contracted the Czech company Holidays Czech Airlines, a subsidiary of CSA Airlines,to provide flight operations as an interim solution, pending the acquisition of own aircraft and the granting of an own AOC following on the demise of the earlier provider, Astreaus.
The Czech pilots are taking action against CSA Airlines' transfer of a third of CSA-leased planes to the subsidiary as part of the ailing carrier's restructuring.
So far, however, Iceland Express has assured the public that the Czech pilots' action will not harm its operations.
-We have been assured that the actions of the parent company's pilots will have no effect on the obligations of CSA Holidays to Iceland Express, Iceland Express says in a statement.
In any case, Iceland Express is scaling down its flight program significantly in 2012, from today's 24 to 16 from next year's summer schedule.
