Dec 29, 2011 (newstodate): 2011 has been a successful year for Warsaw Chopin Airport, handling more than nine million passengers over the last 12 months despite fewer aircraft movements.
By December 16, 2011, the total number of passengers served at Chopin Airport was 9.06 million, up 7.2 percent, y-o-y, while aircraft movements fell by more than 5 percent, compared to 2010.
Over the last year, a number of important development works have been completed at the Warsaw airport, most notably the opening of two new piers, which boosted the terminals capacity by more than 18,000 sqm and increased the number of gates from 28 to 45.
Other projects included work on RWY1, which made it possible for the airport to accommodate the worlds biggest passenger jets, as well as the repair of apron 3 and TWY U2.
Poland's largest airport, Chopin Airport in 2010 served over 8.7 million passengers, which represented nearly 43 percent of Poland's passenger traffic.
