Nov 10, 2011 (newstodate): Freight volumes through Uzbekistan's Navoi International Airport are growing steadily in 2011.
A total of 37,800 tonnes of air cargo was handled at the airport ion January-September 2011, compared to 18,500 tonnes in the same period in 2010, an increase by 104 percent, y-o-y.
In 2008,Uzbekistan Airways and the Hanjin Group, parent company of Korean Air, signed an agreement to develop Uzbekistan's logistics infrastructure including the building of a new logistics center at Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In August 2010, a new terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi, and in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways, Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
Korean Air Cargo is now also mulling plans for launching new flights from Korea via Navoi to Hanoi, Shanghai and Riga.
