Nov 01, 2011 (newstodate): The move by Spirit Air Cargo Handling to Terminal North at Copenhagen Airport from its current premises in the airport's eastern area has run into delays.
Initially slated for autumn 2011, the cut-over date has now been pushed back to February 1, 2012.
-The snag remains the issue of the airside/landside demarcation lines against the inner security area adjoining the terminal's landside area, says Carsten Johansson, Spirit Air Cargo Handling Executive VP.
-First, we have to come to an agreement with the airport security authority, which will next formulate an exact model for the approval by the Danish Trafikstyrelsen. After that orders will be placed with providers of the security equipment and fences required by the solution, and eventually these facilities must be in place before we can finally move all cargo handling activities under the roof of Terminal North.
-All this has obviously required more time than anticipated, but taking the current status as point of departure, early February 2012 will be a plausible launch date that has now also been communicated to our customers.
-It is also obvious that the delay in the process entails continued extra costs and stress as we are thus still handling cargo both at Terminal East, Hangar 1 as to air mail, and also at Terminal North where we are now processing part of the import shipments, says Mr Johansson.
