Nov 24, 2011 (newstodate): Slovenia's second-largest airport Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport will be up for sale at an auction in 2012.
The decision is prompted by the bankruptcy of the Slovenian company Prevent Global that had placed assets in the form of loans, now reclaimed by the trustee, in the airport.
January 10, 2012, has been set for the auction, and several interested parties, including foreign companies, have reportedly aired interest in taking over the airport.
Equipped with two runway, one at 1,200 and another newly renovated at 2,500m, Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport completed the construction of a new passenger terminal in spring, 2011.
In 2010, a tender was opened for a 30-year concession to manage and operate the airport, but no bids landed on the table.
