Nov 02, 2011 (newstodate): In Scandinavia, the SAS Group has lifted Spirit Air Cargo Handling off the sales shelf.
As part of the new SAS Group strategy 4Excellence, announced on September 14, 2011, a number of organizational changes have been effected to simplify the company structure, and one result is that efforts to sell the cargo handling company have been suspended.
The decision to sell the cargo handling company was made by the SAS Board on February 5, 2008, but despite alleged talks with "several interested parties" no serious bid was ever landed as the global financial and economic crisis struck.
Instead, Spirit Air Cargo Handling is now organizationally referring to SAS Ground Handling, moving away from its former designation as a Group asset for sale.
But of course - if a potent buyer should emerge....
