Nov 24, 2011 (newstodate): Before the end of this year, the Russian cargo carrier Volga-Dnepr will take delivery of its second IL-76TD-90VD freighter.
The carrier has placed firm orders for a total of the versatile upgraded and re-engined IL-76 ramp-loading freighter, and the latest aircraft is currently undergoing final pre-delivery tests.
Volga-Dnepr took delivery of the first-ever IL-76TD-90VD in June 2006, and a third aircraft will be delivered in the first half of 2012.
The IL-76TD-90VD is capable of delivering up to 50 tonnes of cargo over 4,000 km.
The IL-76TD-90VD aircraft is the most fuel-efficient ramp-loading aircraft for transportation of cargo in the 20-50 tonnes weight range, and the manufacturer forecasts a demand for between fifteen and twenty IL-76TD-90VD freighters by 2015.
