Nov 30, 2011 (newstodate): Stalled for years, the modernisation of Russia's modernisation of Russia's Omsk Fedorovka Airport to replace the existing Omsk Tsentralny Airport will still go ahead - with further delays.
Plans are now to start construction works in 2012, and a tender for selecting a contractor will be opened by mid-December 2011.
The project is thus again one year after the earlier plans that called for construction works to start this year already.
Visions are to develop the new airport to play a crucial role in the planned set-up of a multi-modal transport complex around Omsk.
When finished, the new airport will have the capacity to handling of 1.2 mio passengers annually, and the plans also comprise the construction of a new cargo facility.
The project has been delayed for a long period of time, leaving the airport only 60 percent finished, but plans are still to complete the works and commission the airport in 2014.
