Nov 30, 2011 (newstodate): In 2012, competition on flights between Estonia and Russia may heat up further.
The Russian carrier Aeroflot has high ambitions for a steep growth in traffic in 2012, and among a range of new routes to be opened may also be flights between Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and Tallinn Airport, in Estonia.
If materialized, Aeroflot will then be competing against Estonian Air and UTAir.
Estonian Air is currently offering daily rotations on the route between Tallinn and Moscow Sheremetyevo and has announced a further increase in frequency in 2012.
UTAir launched flights from Moscow Vnukovo Airport to Tallinn from August 1, 2011, offering daily flights on the route.
So far Estonian Air has operated the flights to Moscow in a code-share agreement with Aeroflot, and it remains to be seen if this will be maintained if, and when, Aeroflot launches own flights on the route.
