Nov 25, 2011 (newstodate): LOT Polish Airlines is awaiting the final go-ahead for its resuming flights on its route to China.
Pending the official permits, the carrier plans to launch flights on the route from Warsaw to Beijing in the first half of 2012.
The route will be using the new air lanes through Siberian air space to minimize flying times and fuel consumption and will thus benefit from the Russian announcement of abolishing the excessive overflight charges from January 1, 2011.
LOT has long worked on re-opening the route to Beijing, but delays in the delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner to the carrier, expected to start from 2008, caused the plans to be postponed.
In 2005, LOT ordered eight Boeing 787 aircraft with delivery deadline comprising four aircraft by the end of 2008, followed by one in 2009 and finally three in 2010, with a purchase option for eight aircraft in the following years.
Flights on the route were, however, commenced with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with three weekly rotations from the end of March, 2008.
As of June 6, LOT however suspends flights on the route as the Boeing 767-300 aircraft service did not enable LOT to attain a profitable operation.
