Nov 01, 2011 (newstodate): Contrary to expectations, Serbia's tender for its ailing carrier JAT did succeed in attracting one participant as the deadline was reached by October 31, 2011.
Now to probe into a deeper analysis of JAT's books is Latvia's aviation enterprise group Baltic Aviation Systems, managed and majority-owned by Bertolt Flick, the now former CEO of airBaltic where BAS holds 47.2 percent of the shares.
A spokesperson from Serbia's Ministry of Infrastructure confirms to newstodate that BAS is indeed the sole bidder in the tender, but he was unable to tell when the next deadline for handing in a binding offer is set, and when the entire process will be concluded.
Earlier, rumors circulated that the carrier airBaltic had shown interest in acquiring JAT - but it thus turns out to be not the carrier, but BAS taking part in the tender.
