Nov 08, 2011 (newstodate): Responding to many problems with its aircraft operated by the UK-based sister company Astraeus, Iceland Express is reportedly in the process of establishing its own aircraft fleet.
The company has applied to the Iceland's Civil Aviation authority for license and AOC to acquire and operate an own fleet of aircraft, presumably to start operations from spring 2012.
Iceland Express is currently operating four Boeing 737 and two Boeing 757-200 aircraft on a lease contract with Astraeus.
In June 2010, the company launched services to Chicago, Boston, and Orlando, in addition to its European network.
No details on the composition and size of the planned new fleet are yet available.
