Nov 18,2011 (newstodate): Estonian Air has announced a fairly expansive plan for growing network and frequencies in 2012 - and with this comes a need for more aircraft capacity.
Currently operating two SAAB 340 aircraft leased from Sweden's Golden Air, the carrier is now looking for adding more aircraft capacity to serve its short-haul Baltic routes.
-We can confirm that we need three operational turboprop aircraft in 2012 and growing to four in 2013, says Ilona Eskelinen, Estonian Air communications manager.
-Our focus is on new generation turboprop aircraft, but we are evaluating using SAAB aircraft in an interim period. Ideally, we want to renew our fleet of jet aircraft before we take a decision on new turboprop aircraft, says Mrs Eskelinen.
Estonian Air is preparing to take delivery of its third CRJ900 aircraft in December 2011, and will soon order five more next-generation jet aircraft, yet unspecified, to replace the two Boeing 737-300 and two Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
