Nov 24, 2011 (newstodate): Avion Capital Partners, based in Switzerland, is growing its portfolio of Airbus aircraft.
In April 2011, the Icelandic-owned company acquired its first jet aircraft, an Airbus A320 placed on Lithuanian registry and operated by the Lithuanian carrier Avion Express on a Lithuanian AOC.
-The aircraft has performed excellently and is currently operating under a contract in the Caribbeans and will restart last year's operations in May 2011 for a tour operator based in Milan, says David Masson, Avion Capital Partners.
-Having now landed a fresh contract with Iceland's new low-cost carrier WOW Air, we will need more capacity and are now taking delivery of a further two Airbus A320 by December 2011, and plans are to add two more Airbus A320 aircraft in 2012, bringing the fleet to a total of five.
-All aircraft will be leased by Avion Capital Partners and placed with the Lithuanian carrier Avion Express on Lithuanian registration, and while we maintain own technical management and engineering, other technical services will be out-sourced to European providers, says Mr Masson.
The company also operates a fleet of three SAAB 340 freighter aircraft on contracts with integrators.
-We earlier operated one SAAB 340 in passenger version, but this aircraft has been sold. The three remaining SAAB 340 freighter are performing well and will stay with us, but there are no plans to invest further in turboprop aircraft, says Mr Masson.
Formerly named Nordic Solutions, the Lithuanian carrier Avion Express was taken over in 2008 by the Icelandic Avion Group when the owners of Nordic Solutions that provided in-night logistics went bankrupt.
Switzerland-based Avion Capital Partners was set up in 2009 by David Masson, initially functioning as a management consultancy to Avion Aircraft Trading.
In 2010, Avion Express was acquired by the French investment company Eyjafjoll SAS, formed by Avion Capital Partners of Switzerland along with strategic industry investors.
