Nov 22, 2011 (newstodate): Russia and the CIS are growing markets for the smaller turboprop aircraft built by ATR.
A total of 38 ATR aircraft are currently operated by Russian and CIS carriers, and the company has the delivery of a further 15 aircraft on its backlog.
Among the latest and most significant orders from Russia is the delivery of five ATR 42-600 to NordStar Airlines that also holds two options.
This will make the carrier the first CIS operator of new ATR aircraft series.
The carrier has also placed orders in 2010 for four 42-500 aircraft and has a further three options.
Nordstar already operates four ATR 42-500 aircraft and earlier placed orders for delivery of two ATR 42-600 aircraft.
The aircraft is reportedly well-suited to the characteristics of many small airfields in the region.
