Oct 11, 2011 (newstodate): Ukraine's Simferopol International Airport has contracted Lufthansa Consulting to prepare a Public-Private-Partnership arrangement for the development of the Crimean airport.
The project is to focus on how to modernize the airport, especially its passenger handling facilities, and how to finance the required investments.
The idea is to involve private investors and an experienced airport operator in order to ensure professional airport management and compliance with international safety and quality standards.
Simferopol International Airport, the second largest in Ukraine, has one 3,701m runway and needs development in the form of a new passenger terminal, new cargo facilities, renovation of the runway system and other pertinent infrastructure elements.
The modernization project was already decided upon in 2008, but later hit by the economic crisis that forced the project to a stand-still.
