Oct 31, 2011 (newstodate): Time is running out in the tender for acquisition of Serbia's ailing carrier, JAT.
The tender is closing on Monday, October 31, 2011, and not a singly potential buyer is reportedly in sight.
If this second attempt to sell JAT to a foreign investor fails, Serbia may have to implement the alternate plan - to close down the existing carrier and set up a new one.
The process would comprise the sale of all of JAT's aircraft, a sharp reduction of the existing work force, and the establishing of a new JAT, presumably by summer 2012, with a fleet of leased aircraft to serve a limited network of destinations.
The last airline showing interest in taking over JAT was Turkish Airlines that negotiated with JAT through 2010 - with no confirmed results.
