Oct 17, 2011 (newstodate): The Swedish capital's Stockholm Arlanda Airport saw the market growth slowing down during the summer of 2011.
-We can now see a decline in September by eight percent in volumes, compared to last year. Volumes in January-September 2011 are, however, still showing positive growth, around 2.5 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 117,178 tonnes, says Bjorn Ragnebrink, LFV Director Business Development Intercontinental Routes & Cargo.
-The totals include 68,808 tonnes of exports, and 48,369 tonnes of import cargo.
-This is of course a result of the economic problems we can see around Europe and in different parts of the world. Since almost 50 percent of the Swedish GDP is related to the export industry, this is a logical development.
-On a cautiously positive note, the market does not yet seem to fall as dramatically as it was in the beginning of the recession in early 2009. The market is slowing down, but in a more controlled manner so far, says Mr Ragnebrink.
In 2010 the airport handled a total of 156,000 tonnes of trucked and flown cargo, up 18 percent, y-o-y.
Including mail, the gross total landed at some 174,000 tonnes in 2010.
