Oct 12, 2011 (newstodate): The SAS Group is reportedly reining in on its former Core SAS-policy, re-integrating its SAS Ground Handling companies in Norway and Sweden.
The ground handling activities were separated into independent companies named SAS Ground Services, later re-named SAS Ground Handling, in 2009 as part of efforts to withdraw to core business and reduce the cost base, but 2,400 staff in Norway and 1,350 in Sweden are now transferred back into SAS, according to a Norwegian newspaper.
In Denmark, SAS' ground handling with 4,650 staff remained part of the carrier, while SAS' ground handling activities in Finland were sold to ISS and the activities in the UK were sold to Asig.
The cargo handling activities remain within the independent SAS Group-owned company Spirit Air Cargo Handling and has long been on the shelf for sale, so far without results.
