Oct 12, 2011 (newstodate): The Russian LCC Red Wings has abandoned its plans of acquisition of up to 44 Russian-built TU-204 aircraft and will now look for western-built aircraft instead.
The carrier is currently evaluating the acquisition of up to 28 Airbus A321 or alternatively a smaller number of Boeing 757 aircraft.
In both cases, the focus is on used aircraft on a leasing arrangement.
Red Wings was founded in 1999 and is now owned by Alexander Lebedev, who was also behind the German charter airline Blue Wings that folded its wings in bankruptcy in 2010.
In the Red Wings fleet are now eight TU-204-11 aircraft.
